On February 21st, 2024, Developer Aspyr announced the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection!

As far as I know, these appear to be a remaster of Star Wars Battlefront (2004) and Star Wars Battlefront II (2005), much loved games currently available on PC (with the Steam version updating them so multiplayer works through their servers), PS2, and Xbox – Xbox having exclusive characters only on that version of Battlefront II.

What are the differences to the originals? Well, according to StarWars.com, here is a list of what is different in these remasters – apart from upscaled graphics, of course.

Star Wars Battlefront (Classic)

  • Includes Bonus Map: Jabba’s Palace

Star Wars Battlefront II (Classic)

  • Includes Bonus Maps: Bespin: Cloud City, Rhen Var: Harbor, Rhen Var: Citadel, and Yavin 4: Arena
  • Includes Bonus Heroes: Asajj Ventress & Kit Fisto

Expanded Hero Assault

For the first time ever, Hero Assault is playable on all ground maps including: Death Star, Kashyyyk, Kamino, and Naboo

I love this, Hero Assault just on Tatooine was a blast but now it can be changed up, as well as the addition of the Xbox heroes of Asagg Ventress and Kit Fisto which I was never able to play as I grew up with the PS2 version of Battlefront 2, only later getting it on PC (which also doesn’t have them).

On the other hand with it I would’ve liked to have seen Battlefront: Renegade Squadron and Battlefront: Elite Squadron added into the collection as any Battlefront collection packaged together feels incomplete without them, as well as they are less accessible to a modern audience – especially if people only play on consoles.
